The Night Sky from Canary Islands

"Wonderful astronomical timelapse video created by one of the masters of the craft."

Advances in camera equipment have allowed independent artists to produce wonderful works such as this one, a timelapse photography done by Spanish professional astrophotographer Daniel López, from the the Astrophysics Institute of Canarias.

The short is composed mainly of static cameras with wide angle lenses, interspersed by sequences of the telescope from the Institute of Canarias at work. Visual rhythm is provided by the movement of stars within the frame due to Earth’s rotation, in some cases contrasted with much faster movement from other objects in the frame. The increased playback speed helps reveal movements and patterns that can’t be perceived by common human eyes.
