Away

Away is a short film written, directed and animated by Damien Colboc about how much we’re willing to sacrifice for those we love. Four characters, a rural staging and a supernatural theme compose this short by French illustrator and animator Damien Colboc, produced as his graduation film at Belgian school ESIAJ (Ecole Supérieure d’Infographie Albert Jacquard).

Away is staged in natural environments (populated by a number of animals) that the author chose to describe with broad strokes and a stylized aesthetic, with an emphasis on color. Highlights of the short include the use of objects and animals to create mystery and suspense, a number of sensory images that help bring life to the film, the great use of color and the unexpected supernatural theme that turns a simple external conflict into a parent’s struggle for his son.
