"Two characters have a transoceanic conversation."
Bottle is a short film by Kirsten Lepore that is staged in natural environments and, interestingly enough, uses elements from those same environments to create the characters of the film (though the author had to use a foam puppet to help animate the sand character).
Staging and its related images and colors allow to quickly identify the side being portrayed, and screen directions are also used to help guide the viewer and build the spatial relationship that allows for the final encounter. Animation is created using stop motion technique. Due to this, cameras are static and visual rhythm is handled through editing and motion within the frame. Bottle makes good use of ellipses to help advance the story, coupled with increasingly frequent close-ups.
