"A farmer plans to have a chicken for dinner."
Chicken is a short film written and directed by Colombian artist Juan Andrés Castañeda about a farmer whose plans for dinner meet an unexpected surprise.
Located in a rural area, in a house interior and in the fields, Chicken features two main characters, with plenty of supporting characters, an external conflict and non-realistic staging with talking animals.
Generous use of camera angles and codes from horror films applied to chicken characters generate a hilarious contrast that sets the tone for this supernatural comedy. There’s good use of supporting music, unexpected turns in the plot and a stylized aesthetic (which changes noticeably after the initial sequences of the film).
