"A surreal cooking experience using quality ingredients."
Fresh Guacamole is a playful surreal short film by PES (Adam Pesapane) about a man who makes guacamole with unusual ingredients. The short uses stop motion and continuity to play with audience’s expectations, focusing on creative use of objects, their meaning and functions (a Chaplin trademark), as well as language to surprise viewers.
One character is employed, his identity hidden as only his hands show up within the frame. No conflicts are present.
Static cameras are used and staging and sound follow what one would expect from a cooking sequence. Close-ups abound, in order to show the various elements that are being processed to make the guacamole dish. Visual rhythm is handled through editing and motion within the frame.
There are a number of recurring themes, in this case the reference was to Chaplin’s use of objects in an unexpected way. Many of his gags rely on the use of objects in a way different to their intended purpose.
