"A man lives alone in a small apartment with his rabbit. A woman living upstairs tries to make contact with him."
Red Rabbit is a highly psychological film created by Egmont Mayer that deals with the subject of loneliness in urban places. Produced at Germany-based Filmakademie Baden Württemberg, the short presents two main characters in an urban setting, one of them with a strong internal conflict. Animals are used as personifications of the characters’ psychologies, and an expression of their lonely lives and secretive personalities.
Highlights of the short include the use of close-ups and framing through doors and refractive glass to transmit confinement, the way the internal conflict of the man is portrayed (the struggle with the rabbit character), the use of sound as a narrative trigger and an effective use of surprise.
