"The human brain under siege."
The Death Grind is a short film written and directed by Endre Baráth that offers a critical look at watching television.
Long takes, few cuts a slow-moving descriptive camera and an abundance of gears compose this metaphorical short that effectively drives its point across. The Death Grind also uses elements placed out of frame in combination with sound to help transmit the message.
The short features one main character, non-realistic staging and an accent on vision, along with a reflection on the role of the TV and its spectator.
The Death Grind was one of the first elaborate short films to be created with Blender, the open source software, at a time many still questioned its capabilities. Director Endre Baráth also composed the music and did the sound design.
