The Words Of The Carp

The Words Of The Carp is a short film created by Lucrèce Andreae as her graduation project at French school La Poudrière. With a subject focused on human relationships, the short presents and urban speed-dating staging, with a multitude of characters and an emphasis on personality studies and character design.

Two-shots are used predominantly to portray the brief encounters between the characters along with wider shots to situate the scene. A clock is employed as a narrative device for speeding up rhythm. Highlights include the playful metaphors used for describing the encounters, the stylized aesthetic, the elements of humor and the heightened subjectivity to describe the POV of the main character and his internal conflict caused by shyness.
