LLAPSE

"A visual metaphor of the positive and negative aspects of humanity, and its path on Earth."

This experimental existentialist short was born out of the collaboration of French director/VFX artist Julien Vanhoenacker and music composer Nicolas Vitte, and makes great use of CG animation for an unusual subject. LLAPSE uses objects and staging in an interesting way to create a narrative of humanity’s evolution, its multiple faces and possibilities, transformations and metamorphoses, and the result of its path on Earth.

An emphasis is placed on the creation of environments, in transmitting the natural and the artificial. There’s also great effort dedicated to syncing visuals to the music, with jump cuts and graphic matches on editing. The aesthetic mixes CG with live action, and uses fragmentation of the image, reflection and repetition as elements to convey the story.

It should be noted that the director works regularly in CG production, and made the effort to dedicate time to producing his own personal work in this environment, a project that in the author’s own words was “a lengthy process spanning over many months”.
