Humans!

Humans! is a short film written and directed by Casey Hunt, Greg Gunn and Reza Rasoli that provides an unflattering view of humanity. The three US-based artists created the short while taking an advanced motion graphics class. The assignment was to create conceptual boards for a propaganda piece. The artists felt there was a lot of potential in the idea they had come up with and went on to make a complete video. They drew inspiration among other things from old World War 2 propaganda.

Humans! mixes 2D and 3D animation techniques, uses fast paced rhythm both in editing (with transitions) and within the frame, and alternates mainly between two sequences: a full shot of the earth and a sequence with a more “micro” view showing human beings destroying the planet. The transition to darker de-saturated colors is used to transmit the sensation of pollution and destruction.

The artists later founded Three Legged Legs, a studio dedicated to video production, and split ways in 2011.
