Meet Buck

"Buck is going to spend an afternoon with his girlfriend, who's very happy to see him."

Meet Buck is an entertaining and energetic short film created by students from Supinfocom Arles. It presents three characters and a clear external conflict between two of them that triggers a long chase scene.

An array of filmmaking techniques are used very effectively, including subjective cameras, fisheye lens, ellipsis in transitions and editing, changes of subjectivity in narration (the hunter character seeing the deer as beef), great storytelling through image associations without dialogue, slow motion and more.

Character design and animation are excellent (the authors mentioned they were inspired by the animation techniques from Gobelins shorts), as is the aesthetic that mixes a painterly style with 3D technique. Sound design is also great and is combined with the images to boost the energy and rhythm of the short.
