Her Morning Elegance

"A young woman's dreams and struggles portrayed through stop-motion technique."

Musician and composer Oren Lavie created this great video for his song “Her Morning Elegance” together with animators Yuval and Merav Nathan from Israel. With the exception of shots at the beginning and end of the video, only one overhead camera is used with just a few close-ups to show the expression of the actress (Shir Shomron) when needed. Employing montage within the frame, the mattress is where most of the visual rhythm takes place, stressing the fact that the visuals are a projection of the woman’s dreams.

The action uses elements from the bed or people’s clothing to creatively portray objects and characters, usually moving from one side of the mattress to the other to give the impression of movement, in some cases with reminiscences from video game iconography. The directors took the liberty to free the video narrative at times from that of the song, allowing themselves to play visually with the elements they had at hand.

2096 photos were shot to create the video, based on an animated previsualization scripted by the directors.
