Oru Burus

"A king loses control of the sun."

This short film produced at French school Supinfocom portrays an external conflict between two characters that have usually been linked in history. Many ancient kings associated their terrestrial power with the celestial power of the sun (and used gold in their symbols and crowns with stylized rays to give them related attributes).

Highlights of the short include its construction toy aesthetic, the character designs, the way the king expresses his personality through his sceptre and the great attention to sound, which is used to augment scale and to create impressions of contrasts and materiality when combined with editing and visual rhythm.

The end of the short alludes to Georges Méliès’ classic, A Trip to the Moon (1902).
