TimTom

"Two characters want to meet."

TimTom is a short film by Romain Segaud and Christel Pougeoise that pays tribute to filmmaking and film history, using elements such as persistence of vision, the thaumatrope, flipbook animation, filmstrips, soundtracks shown explicitly in the frame and an early 1900s aesthetic.

Presenting three characters and an external conflict, the authors chose to use just a few elements that could be employed effectively for creating comedic situations and playing with film-related elements. The self-reflexivity of TimTom is worth noting, with characters playing and interacting with some of the elements that make up the film itself.

A stylized black & white aesthetic is employed, which combines 3D animation with live action and elements from filmmaking. The later are incorporated into the non-realistic staging of the short, creating further comedic situations.

The great creativity, attention to character design, use of surprise and humor make TimTom a very appealing short, which filmmakers will appreciate especially.
